Slow Cooker Steel Cut Oats

Servings: 4

Total time: 4 hours


  • 1 1/2 cups steel-cut oats

  • 4 cups water

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

  • 2 honey crisp or pink lady apples, chopped

  • Optional toppings: 1/4 cup fresh berries or banana slices, 1 Tbsp peanut butter, hemp hearts or chia seeds, or 1/4 cup unsalted nuts


  1. Place all of the ingredients except the toppings in the bottom of a 4-to-6-quart slow cooker and stir to combine.

  2. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or on high for 4 hours, until the oats are soft but chewy. Remove the cover and stir together. 

  3. Serve with toppings of your choice. Enjoy.
