Turkey Jerky

Servings: 5 Total time: 6 hours

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground turkey, 99% fat-free

  • 2 Tbsp low-sodium soy sauce

  • 1 cup pecans, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 170°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Blend the soy sauce, pecans, garlic and onion powder, black pepper, and applesauce in a food processor. Put the mixture in a large mixing bowl, and mix in the turkey with hands.

  3. Place the mixture between two sheets of parchment paper. Using a rolling pin, roll the mixture out into a 10-inch square.

  4. Cut the square into 10 bars and arrange the bars in a single layer on the lined baking sheet (about 1 inch apart so they don’t touch).

  5. Bake bars for 5 hours, then flip them and bake for an additional 45 minutes.

  6. Let the bars cool before placing them in snack bags and storing them in the fridge. Enjoy!

Notes

More Flavor: Try different spices, like smoked paprika, dry thyme, or sage.

Leftovers: Jerky can be refrigerated for 3-4 days safely.
